I drove through AZ today and there was a lot of traffic on I-10, particularly just east of downtown Phoenix. Most stores I saw were closed, yet people are out and about. Was in LA yesterday, Cali is active.
I see the news, I read the internet and then I look outside and shyt isn't adding up. You'd think it was just a few clusters of idiots if you let the Coli and Reddit tell it, but it's A LOT of people out and about. I don't know if they'll all drop dead like y'all seem to think but I don't think people are as fearful as you all think they are. People in places that haven't even "reopened" yet are just.......outside.
People aren't going to stay in their homes indefinitely. They may not want to go back to work (the real issue) but they definitely don't want to stay inside all day for months. People have been lying about how seriously they follow the rules. If you've been interacting with people outside your residence in a social manner.......you've just killed my grandmother, selfish asses.

Any public health response plan is only as good as the number of people who decide not to follow it.

Now realize that in the United States public policy professionals recognize this fact, and are fully prepared to let people sacrifice their lives on the way to achieving herd immunity. The ancillary fact that people who are doing what they should are also put at risk by the idiots is immaterial to the policy people. They know they have little control over such things and will protect themselves; the senators and congresspeople have their health care assured and their gated compounds to live in.
That means it falls to you to defend you and yours. Not just from the YOLO idiots...but also from policy wonk indifference. Welcome to the United States of Everymanforthemself, Inc.
