"Cubs hitting coach John Mallee discussing Jason Heyward's changes to his swing. They're going back to his 2012 season in Atlanta and trying to mimic his approach. Getting him in a better "hitting position" as the ball is thrown is a goal."

We'll see how this plays out.
Frankly it shouldn't take 5 years to fix a guy. But players have career years at 27 all the time.
If they can get him to OPS .800+ this contract won't be so bad.

But I'm skeptical.

Since signing with the Cubs, Jason Heyward is hitting .251/.330/.387 --- an OPS of .717

A total of 55 home runs in 614 games.
From 2016 through 2020, Heyward is 47th in WAR. Not among MLB players. Among just MLB Outfielders.
He has fewer home runs in that time than Brett Gardner.

Including this season, the Cubs will have paid him $140,000,000.

I. Told. You. So.

Not arguing with any of this but he won a world series during the course of his contract. :ehh:

I think it's okay to miss on some of these contracts because it doesn't seem to hamper some teams from winning.

Yeah. The Cubs did win a world series.
