Is this a serious question? What do you think being gay is? Masculinity by definition is based on our biological male identity and sex. The entire gay lifestyle runs counter to a mans natural biological identity. If a man is with another man then he is taking the place of a woman. It is what it is. There is nothing masculine about it. And you do not have to be "feminine" to be emasculated.

And no, I have no desire to watch the movie cause the subject matter is not something I'm interested in watching.

Just cause a man is with another man doesn't mean he taking the place of a women, especially masculine men. Masculinity is mannerisms. Nothing more, has nothing to do with how many bytches a man fukks before he cheats on his wife or has anything to do with women at all. And being a man in general means taking care of their responsibilities know matter the challenges and adversities. I have seen plenty of straight men RUN away or walked away from such things, don't be blind to what stereotypes you see on tv and take them for fact.

i'm curious: why is it black excellence?....because it has a high rating? because it won an award?...just asking...i havent seen the movie yet, maybe it is that good, so i'll save judgement until i see it, i just have reservations.....i say that cause to me, going off the plot, it's the type of movie that non blacks tend to give high praises to just cause it portrays black people in a certain category...the categories i'm talking about: a slave, a homosexual, a help the white people kinda role, the forgiving of white people kinda role, and/or a stereotype....but that doesnt mean it's that good of a movie...like i said: maybe it is, i dont know, havent seen it yet....
I think it's because its a break out moment for an up and coming young black writer/director and it features great performances from several new young black actors. The content of the film aside, the acting is amazing from nearly everyone in the cast, and aside from some extras in the 3rd act, there's no white people in the movie. It's a nearly all black cast, writer, and director and it was nominated for 8 oscars. Hopefully it's a starting point for a lot of long careers in film.

And while the content may not speak directly to young straight black men, it's a step in the right direction, away from just making historical black films about racism, slavery, and the other Hollywood pre-approved storylines.

I DO think it says something about any young kid growing up in the hood that feels different, even if it isn't about his sexuality. Learning how to be a man without a father figure is tough, especially in an environment where your manhood is constantly being challenged & questioned.

this nikka was in it for 30 secs :rudy:, he out here winning awards ?

The agenda is real brehs
William Hurt was in like 2 scenes in A History of Violence and got nominated for an Oscar. Meanwhile, Viola Davis is a lead in Fences out here winning Supporting Actress awards. There really aren't many rules regarding how long you have to be in a movie to win or be nominated.

I think Trevante Rhodes(Chiron from the 3rd act) should've been nominated instead of Ali though. He was amazing and he had more on screen time.

as for viola: she winning supporting actress awards cause that's the category she chose to enter....people (including denzel) told her she should get in the lead actress category, but she said no....

Just finished it, it was not a good film. A great deal of immature and sad comments in here regarding homosexuality though. I hope most of you cat's just trolling.

The only reason why it even getting praise is because its about black gays. Creed that came out in 2015 was just as well written as this movie and nobody talk about that movie.

:ehh:

I agree with most of this.

& I watch the whole movie because of that.

Even though I was cringing at some points, immature I know.

Is this the first all black movie to get this type of praise ?

And how much do you credit the gay agenda to it ?

I thought this movie was trash for the most part. I walked in expecting them to really go there with a profound, gay story (after all, that's what the marketing sold it as) and I just got some surface level, cliche, dull, and surprisingly timid gayness.

The Cell Therapy scene was by far the coolest. That had me in the theater like:stylin: :russ:
