n 18 August 2014, it was reported that Chan had been arrested on 14 August by Beijing police due to drug possession, alongside Ko Chen-tung, a Taiwanese actor.[14] Police later found more than 100 grams of marijuana after searching Chan's apartment.[15]While Ko was set to be released 14 days after his arrest, Chan faces criminal charges and sentences up to the death penalty or life imprisonment for allegedly hosting others to consume marijuana.[16] Chan, whose father Jackie had been China's anti-drug goodwill ambassador since 2009, admitted to taking drugs for 8 years.[17] Soon after, Jackie Chan has made an public apology for his son's drug use and takes some of the responsibility for not teaching him well. [18] On September 17, 2014, procurator’s office have approved the formal arrest of Chan on suspicion of “accommodating drug users”.[19] Chan has been formally charged with providing a venue for drug use, a criminal charge that carries a penalty of up to three years in prison.[20]

While filming a movie in Hong Kong, the elder Chan confirmed with reporters that he and Lin Feng-jiao were completely unaware with their son's drug use and if he had known about it, he would have beaten him to death. He also believes that his son is not a drug addict but just too naive and did not know that it would get him in big trouble. Lastly, he also believes that his son will change into a better person after his arrest. [21] Chan spent his 32nd birthday in custody, which revealed that he has indeed changed as his mother stated that her son has borrowed more than a hundred books to read ever since he was detained. In the past, whenever he was presented a script, he would ask his colleagues to read it out loud to him after claiming that he has dyslexia. [22] On 22 December 2014, four months after his arrest, Chan has been indicted by Chinese authorities for sheltering other people to use drugs but did not say when his trial will start. [23] His trial finally began on January 9th, 2015 in Beijing, after spending 148 days in detention. Chan was sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of 2,000 yuan (~$320 USD). Due to the time that he had already spent in detention before his trial began, he is scheduled to be released on February 13th. Chan confessed that he broke the law and he should be punished for his actions and once he is released, he will not do it again. Both of his parents did not attend their son's hearing although the elder Chan was reportedly in Beijing. His father repeatedly said that he will not use his connections to lighten his son's sentence.[24] [25]

It was later revealed that during his detention, Chan wrote a three page remorse letter to his mom which helped him get a lighter sentence. In his letter, he apologized to his mom for his mistakes and he blamed his father's "Insufficient love" for him caused him to fall into the drug habit because he thought drugs would help him forget all his problems. He revealed that he shoulder enormous stress being the son of a megastar. He promised his mom that he will not repeat his mistakes in the future. [26]

Chan is expected to be release on February 14th and the elder Chan said that he and his wife will not pick him up from prison. "He is an adult, and should be able to look after himself. Do not live under my shadow," his father stated. It is unclear what Chan's plan would be after he is released but reports say that he will move to Taiwan to be with his mom

He's talking tough, but more than likely his son is in a minimum security prison and he probably got a lighter sentence for his son

He really is a piece of crap though, it's a known fact in HK that dude is a Communist sympathizer and does not support the other b*stard kids he has

He IS an adult and blaming his father for "insufficient love" is a bullshyt excuse. I'm quite sure that if he was indeed facing the death penalty that Jackie wouldn't let his son go out like THAT but as an ADULT he is responsible for his own actions and any consequence that they bare. The man is 32 not 13
