Yeah, I was even contemplating on getting one, but considering people here are saying otherwise...I think I'll pass.

Since we're all in this thread, which is has better test results, 23andme or ancestry? I'm asking in general.

I supported African Ancestry because its black owned but the Results were 'off'. Like someone else said it really looks at your haplogroup, so the matches just mean you share a halpogroup with people in a region, but their test populations could throw off the context of your results.

For My results I understood the deeper meaning of em since I know about my tribes Migration paths, but if you are say an AA trying to see what region your people came from, Ancestry may be the better thing to use and then upload that data to Gedmatch like someone else said. You pretty much get a similar picture and much cheaper.

Damn, that sucks! I really wanted to know where I belong since I'm AA and since they were black owned, I thought they would have more tools and what not for the tests to be accurate... So I suppose you're right on the money with that guess. But either way, thanks for the advice and knowledge:blessed::salute:

yeah Ancestry would be the better starting point. While it isn't tribe specific it is region relevant, and then Ged Match will give you an IDEA that you can work with regarding which Tribes or Ethnic groups you may have roots in.

Man it's so frustrating because I know my family's last name (Benson) is the name of a slave owner and I can't pin point where in history my family became the Bensons. The records seemingly don't exist because most owners didn't keep records on their slaves until like the 1860s.

The entire system of white supremacy stretches so deep word to @Swagnificent I'm really feeling the pains and burdens of not knowing who the hell I am or where I came from.

Meanwhile, I'm looking at white peoples family trees on Ancestry.com and seeing them trace their families back into the 1600s over seas and shyt and I can't even get adequate records that extend past the early 1800s. My heart is broken.
