Exactly. Anytime a player corner blitzes from that area, you throw in that area. Ayuik was the read.
Exactly. Football 101. He literally let Spags spam that blitz and he never ID the blitzer. McDuffie would simply feign coverage and then blitz at the last possible second. That should not work on a repeated basis, but it did.

Agreed, but you have a free rusher coming in hot from a disguised blitz so he instinctively goes to his first read, which is his most trusted 3rd down weapon who has been the best receiver on the field that day. It wasn't the right decision, hitting Aiyuk would have been the better decision, but it's completely understandable and Spags and the Chiefs D are elite, they won that down. Many elite QBs don't make that play either.
Cabt minimize that play. That was literally the game and your best WR right in front of your face. He didnt read the blitz that they did repeatedly, he panicked.

This isn't Madden, man. Lamar Jackson doesn't have Purdy's assets because he's Lamar Jackson and makes $260M.

This is incorrect. Unless you mean ‘bc he’s Lamar and they didn’t regard him as a legit passer’

Bc,

1) Lamar just got paid. His cap number has not been an issue until the his year and forward

2) Andrews = Kittle.

3) Deebo drafted 2019 #36. Bmore took Hollywood at #25 and have since traded him.

4) Aiyuk drafted #25 in 2020. That same draft—-bc it’s Lamar——Bmore didn’t value WR as high and took Patrick Queen at #28. Tee Higgins went 33. Michael Pittman went 34.

5) Bmore once again went WR Bateman in 2021 #27. Hasn’t developed…but saw enough from him to see he can play. But—-bc it’s Lamar——a now 3rd WR is t going to develop

6) No CMC. But again Lamar just got paid. They could have traded for a RB (Henry, Taylor) but ——‘bc he’s Lamar—-they view RB as a a dime o dozen in their system . They’re not really wrong, but that was their choice

All in all WRs have not developed bc Lamar ain’t been a legit passer. Also they have drafted body types they mesh with the alternative style passing. Hollywood and Zay are never going to be legit #1’s bc of their size yet that’s who they chose to pick —-bc of Lamar. And Bmore won’t get a star WR to come in free agency bc of Lamar

It was an important play where Spags beat Purdy. I'd have to rewatch to see how often they did that same blitz to see if Purdy reasonably should have known it was coming, but this is an elite defense and the blitzer was a first team all-pro so I doubt they were running some mickey mouse stuff. If Purdy had normal protection and the blitz was picked up and he still missed a wide open Aiyuk then I'd be willing to mark him down much more. :yeshrug:

But again, I think this was one of his worst plays of the day, given the context.

that whole 3rd quarter was a disaster. got all the stops they wanted and blew it. Couldn't even get in field goal range. just horrible to be up 10-3 and not score at all during that time, not to mention missing that XP

Even in overtime, they got that holding call and STILL couldn't capitalize. Bums

They ran that blitz with McDuffie atleast 3 times that I saw and he never once IDed him.

I thought it was clear as day that McDuffie was coming. He was just trying to time the snap.

A more experienced QB might make that protection check, but Aiyuk's route is clearly designed to beat a blitz. Just so happens McDuffie's rush lane was also the throw lane so it's an easy play for him to make. Both sides had the right play dialed up but the defender got there first.

You have two other guys in here agreeing w me. Aiyuk was the hot and Purdy missed him for the game
Everyone agrees that he should have hit Aiyuk, what I'm taking issue with is your post which acts like it's a layup. It was more of a great call and play by the defense than a bad play by the offense.

It's a layup if he recognizes where the blitz is coming from and changes the protection pre-snap.
