Yeah man. Also check out the Down The Rhodes documentary. You’ll have to pay for it, but they put a bunch of free clips on their YouTube channel. They showed way more respect to the Black musicians, and you’ll definitely walk away, more educated about 60s and 70s music.

bet, imma check this. I always noticed how acts like James Ingraham didn’t sound like R&B of that era.

He was talking about Prince Paul’s production on 3 Ft High and Rising using a lot of Steely Dan and songs from this era. He said, Paul didn’t do like the peasants and sample funk and soul beats but sampled Yacht Rock.

I just saw that part... really insulting from a guy whos a Dilla stan who's best most memorable joints are from sampling funk/soul records. Even in the doc lot of those guys flat out admit they were borrowing from black music (not a surprise of course) and it brought home the sad categorization of black = r&b at that time too.

Dope ass documentary tho. Really really insightful and historic.

Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
Been listening to yacht music my whole life a didnt know there was a genre (specific sub name for it, rather)…

Until i ran into the Serius yacht rock station during covids

Not sure if chicago and toto are considered YR bands, but i love the shiit out of em.

All the other bands/artists mentioned in the trailer are quintessential givens…

Then you have artists/bands who arent traditionally RY musicians but will make a traditionally sounding yacht-esque tunes… cases in point:

Too bad i dont have HBO… but i respect it.

Rock on, wayne.
