always thought Em would get called out for throwing X Clan under the bus on that Yellow Brick Road song but he didnt....I still feel Em did that only becauze their popularity had died down by 2004 and he was taking advantage...I say that because Em never mentioned Ice Cube who was the poster child of hating on the whiteman in early 90's hip hop.....How could Em mention X Clan and not Cube? The answer...X Clan wasnt popular by that time and they were an easy target

X Clan's first album is a certified classic! I think they kinda get overshadowed by groups like Public Enemy (from that era) because they weren't able to reach the masses at a larger scale like them. But they had joints that use to go ham at parties. And it maybe hard for younger people to understand how a "socially conscious" group like X Clan were getting played at clubs. The secret was they, just like PE, had great beats/production to go along with the message they were conveying. Songs like Grand Verbalizer, Funkin Lesson, Verbal Milk, Fire and Earth were CERTIFIED CLUB BANGERS! I remember being 12, sneaking into the local spots around here and grinding on 19 year old chicks to Funkin Lesson lol

they didn't have Jews like Lyor Cohen cosigning them, because unlike P.E .......X CLAN were NOT conformist AND they didn't give a FLYING FUKK ABOUT SELLING RECORDS..NO DISRESPECT TO CHUCK D. ...

but Grand and Professor X wasn't APOLOGIZING FOR SHYT and were REAL ABOUT THIER IDEALS... :bustback:

the BLACKWATCH MOVEMENT was some real revolutionarly shyt......you gotta understand Professor X father Sonny Carson was a real live activist who was on the COINTELPRO list...

THESE WERE NOT JUST "RAPPERS"..... :beli:

And the industry realized that....alot of thier shyt didn't cosigned....MTV ain't really fukked with them...i don't even think FAB 5 FREDDY got to do a segment with them .......

in laymens term they had the INDUSTRY SHOOK

true story...

In fact i remember as a teen this dude had asked this Program Director of this small AM radio station in georgia where i interned at , why he ain't played no X-CLAN???

his response.."they TOO DAMN BLACK"

:laff:

Real spit, they are one of the groups whose legacy was built purely off the strength of the music and the message.

I do remember them getting some Yo MTV Raps airplay. But other then that, your right. They never had any major backings or cosigns from corporate enitites. But they definitly came out at the right time because of the afrocentric, 5%, NOI themes that were dominating Hip Hop at the time. So they did fit right in, with where the music was during that era.
SB: Remember when KRS was going at them?
