I guess. There was still some mainstream type of notoriety back then and celebs in the crowd.

There was definitely some mainstream appeal still left in 2002. In 2007 it was completely gone and the WWE was a total shell of itself. That’s why they hit the PG train so hard from 08-11.

Cena was one of the last few stars holding it down and even he got injured. Ironic because everybody else started returning around that time.

I wonder what the plans were if Cena didn't get injured. Was Orton supposed to win at No Mercy regardless? And were they always going to have the triple threat at WrestleMania?

Orton was going to win the title regardless. I remember reading that the feud with HBK was basically how they were going to continue the feud with Cena but he got hurt.

I always felt like roster depth was irrelevant to how good you can make a show. Wrestlers ain't "athletes" in the sense that most can go as far as the writers / bookers take them. 2014/2015 NXT era was like 10-12 deep and they killed it every week. But deep roster or not, WWE's product still ass
