When I was younger, I didn't understand why ECW wasn't getting treated as well as RAW and SmackDown. The ECW Championship was only defended once at WrestleMania, and the match was eight seconds. They were consistently being left off pay-per-views, especially near the end of the brand's run. All these years later, I look at 205 Live and I realize it's the same thing.
Had they played their cards right, ECW could have been what NXT is now. The foundation was there with all the new wrestlers getting their start (CM Punk, Lashley, Miz and Morrison) and all the older wrestlers getting their careers revitalized (Christian, Matt Hardy, Mark Henry). There was also the talent exchange with SmackDown so those two brands could have crossed over and had storylines intersect more often. It could have also been a case of the originals getting the spotlight in the beginning, but then the torch is gradually passed to the new generation.
But because it was called "ECW," people were expecting something different. After a while, it became just like RAW and SmackDown and the company started to ignore it as much as they could until it was dead.
