WWE CFO George Barrios spoke to 4-Traders.com today and revealed some new details on the WWE Network. Notably, the subscription will run $12.99-14.99 per month, the break-even point for WWE is around 1 million subscribers and the company will eventually phase out pay-per-view events entirely.

Will WWE's Pay-Per-View Business Eventually Go Away?

"We believe over time. We believe the value proposition will be much more powerful to subscribe to a network at $12.99 to $14.99, 24/7, you have the pay-per-views, a lot of great content, our library, a lot of retrospective programming that we're doing that's testing really, really well, we're producing it right now so over time, I think the pay-per-view does go away."

This will never work. Not at that price. From what I've read the WWE will need over a million subscribers to make a profit. They average 4 million or so viewers for RAW and that's free.. There is no way 25% of the viewers are going to pony up that kind of $ when things such as streams and torrents are available at the touch of a button.

This could have been huge 15 years ago. Even HBO has an issue combating piracy these days.

But, unlike the NFL, as the Wrestling fanbase grows older they'll begin to watch fewer PPV's.

That's why WWE is stressing Wrestlemania so much. That's the one that brings the fanbase home.

Hell, at this point, they're struggling just to keep fans watching 3 hours of Raw every week. And if you can't commit to Raw you won't commit to a WWE Network.

It's too much? I get almost every ppv, ill be saving money!

I don't even pay 15 bucks a month for the sports pack I have (MLB Network, NFL Network, ESPNU, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, Speed)

Why in the fukk would I pay that for one channel? :rudy:

Especially in a world of streams.

shyt free Raw isn't worth the 3 hours and that comes with basic cable...

This is a bad idea. They should have teamed up with Netflix, Hulu or Redbox Instant and let them deliver this content on demand monthly. The old pay channel model is gonna go extinct. This is like opening a record or video rental store... good idea but about 20 years too late. :bryan:

So do you have to sign an agreement or something? I have Comcast and I can add and subtract whatever the fukk premium channel I want month to month.

So I would just pay the fee on the months that are interesting themes/good PPVs then on the shytty ones, just cancel?

To me it's worth it, and the PPVs aren't even the big draw.

This network should be a goldmine for old footage. That's what I'm most interested in. I'm probably in the minority, though, so I won't be surprised if the network isn't a financial success.
