If you did see some of RAW, you saw Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker basically having the same promo they had in 2012, to promote yet ANOTHER Triple H vs Undertaker match. Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker got huge pops and that made pause for a second. Which wrestler that had a match in 2018 could have a pop similar to Taker’s on RAW? John Cena, who’s the last of a dying breed of Superstars in WWE that was truly treated like a Superstar and billed as a Superstar and had a larger than life personality. Yes, he was booed a hell of a lot but to his credit, he carried himself as a Superstar as well.
You look at today’s stars, there is no Cena, hell there’s no Batista, there’s no Triple H, there’s no Undertaker, there’s isn’t even a fukking Rey Mysterio in WWE today. When you look at it though, WWE is to blame for that.
WWE is too afraid to create that mainstream star and of course Vince is determined to get Roman Reigns over to the point where other wrestlers are suffering from it. Seth Rollins was the most popular wrestler in WWE during the Spring and what do they do? Nearly kill his momentum by putting him in a feud with Dolph Ziggler. Braun Strowman was getting over very well, he looked to be that Batista, that popular #2. What do they do with him? Inexplicably turn him heel. Elias, a guy who would’ve been insanely over in 2000, and is still sort of over today, what do they do with him? He’s basically playing a mysogynist to promote Evolution. Don’t even get me started on AJ Styles who can’t even Main Event SmackDown these days. Or guys like Bobby Lashley, The New Day, and the entire Cruiserweight Division. Women like Asuka and someone like Sasha Banks who has the most mainstream potential out of any woman in WWE not named Ronda Rousey.
Long story short, they build these men and women up and once they reach a certain amount of popularity, they try to level it off and that won’t go over well in the future. They can’t keep relying on building PPVs around HHH, The Undertaker, The Rock, Brock Lesnar etc. These guys were Main Eventing Raw in 2002! Imagine Hulk Hogan, Bob Backlund, and Lex Luger main eventing PPVs in 2009, 16 years after 1993, shyt wouldn’t look right would it?
WWE could easily book a very successful WrestleMania using exclusively full time talent but because they of their own fukkups, they rely on part timers, but the longer they keep doing this, the more that the future of the WWE looks bleak as there will be no true stars.
