We make fun of this trend a lot but its actually been relatively successful compared to most Vince ideas lately.
I remember the threads on Rusev dropping his first name and the Drifter changing to Elias Samson and then just Elias...but look how quickly we've gotten used to it. Its catchier for the most part and the old names sound weird to say now.

Well, The Drifter has some sort of ring to it. If WWE just focus on nick names while just doing one word names, it could work despite how stupid the whole ordeal is. I mean, most of us come from an era where wrestling names mattered. For instance, Tully Blanchard. Simple and effective
. When I think of that name, I automatically envisioned a bloodied opponent, 80s glasses, and cokehead attire. It works

, however if they throw in a nickname like "the alpha king" or some shyt like that, I could dig it.Current WWE is so hit and miss on nicknames, though. On the one hand you got great ones with mystique like "The Empress of Tomorrow," "The Monster Among Men," or "The Eater of Worlds." But then you have shyt like "The Extraordinary Man who does Extra Ordinary Things" that don't mean anything, ones like "The Kingslayer" that don't make any sense outside of one feud that person had, or ones that are just boring and say nothing unique about that character like "The Queen" or "The Big Dog."
"The Drifter," I agree, works because it fits so perfectly Elias' character. I think it's just weird calling him that now because he's evolved the act to revolve around just "Elias."
