I think the E is just attempting to make the viewers forget Reigns was suppose to face Goldberg, and main event WM. Reigns kinda disappeared without an explanation. They want to erase THAT, not his carear.

But, as i said right after the Devours from last month. I could see them releasing him to. They'd maybe resign him when he's comfortable wrestling again. They also would probably give him a Brock deal if that was the case. Or at the very least a DBry deal (less dates). Anything is possible.
