Year 4? What about how truly awful 2009 and 2010 were? They caused me to stop watching regularly and I never got back in. Guest hosts. Anonymous General managers. Losing multiple top stars. A hot new group being fed to cena for no reason. I think 2011 is a good point to pick but 2009 and 2010 are strong candidates too. They did take that 750 splash last year don't forget.
You are right, 2010 is a good year to point to as the beginning.
2009 was an awful year but the roster wasn't nearly as great as it is right now. There wasn't the amount of potential being wasted and damaged like the last 3 years. I wouldn't put it as Vince being clueless rather than the Batista/Cena/Orton formula finally cracking.
2010 was them trying something different with The Nexus but fukking up their end game of Cena prevailing and missing their chance to build a legit heel in Barrett. But honestly, I can't fault them for feeding Nexus to Cena, I actually think that was a perfect story for "WWE Ace overcomes their biggest challenge". But they royally fukked up the execution and missed a chance with Barrett.
2011 for me is even more glaring because they stumbled upon the Summer Of Punk and TRIED to make it work their way and failed miserably. From them we've seen how they TRY to take advantage of a situation, TRY to make the most out of one of their most promising rosters ever, but they keep fukking everything up. Not because they want to, but because they just don't know how to book anything (because they are stuck in micro managing and short term even-steven booking). To me, 2011 is when it's clear as day that Vince just can't figure out how to maximize what he has in his product.
The 750 splash wasn't because of bad booking (my main point was how long can they keep doing well with Vince leading the book). We'll have to wait on the Network to see if Cokeboy has also lost it as a promoter.
Also, do people really think Dunn is the problem with the current product? He was around during the piff days of WWE/WWF too giving us those monster promos and hypes to matches.
I'm almost inclined to believe Stephanie McMahon is the one feeding Vince with the "We dont need to call it Wrestling or acknowledge it" shyt in recent years. Hell, the Rock leaving in the early 2000s and hating on CM Punk is also on her fingertips
NXT talent rumors aside. Dunn is responsible for every RAW feeling and looking the same for the last 15 years. That's practically forever in wrestling. Every Monday looks the same, sounds the same, feels the same in terms of production. That's not a huge problem, but it's part of the "afraid to take chances" mentality that has hurt WWE for almost a decade.
Dunn is a big part of that problem because by all accounts he's the one on Vince's ear telling him everything needs to stay the same and fukk what everyone else thinks. He's not pushing Vince to change the way commentary works, to change the scenery and don't even get me started with the way Dunn produces TV nowadays. fukked up camera angles that miss important part of the action (key to understand what story is being told) and shytty mic'ing were you can hear spots being called all the damn time.
fukk Kevin Dunn
