Album is decent based off 2-3 listens. Some gems, some meh tracks but so far no track I've found awful yet. I hated 8 Diagrams but so far this seems like a solid album. Its clear though that RZA should not have full creative freedom or produce entire albums in the future. Let him executive produce and co-produce future albums with someone else. I've absolutely loved everything he's done with Kanye's team for example.
Track by track commentary:
Ruckus In a B Minor - 8/10 - Great opening track, this is Meth's track. He takes command over the track and kills it. Ghost's flow is weak nowadays tho. Good to hear GZA spit with some energy in his voice/delivery.
Felt - 7/10 - Nice, wish the drums would've banged harder though. Meth kills it again.
40th Street - 5/10 - This is too soft production wise for me on a Wu album. Not awful but so bland and forgettable. Skip material.
Mistaken Identity - Once again, production is too soft. I cant get into this track.
Hold the Heater - 8/10 - I've been wanted RZA to bring back his yelling delivery and I fukks with this hook. Beat is nice. U-God killing it. GZA and Meth too!
Crushed Ego's - 6/10 - This track doesn't do that much for me, its cool and all, although that hook is kinda meh.
Keep Watch - 7/10 - Dont get the hate this track gets, that hook aint that bad, could've been better but not bad at all. Beat bangs.
Miracle - 7/10 - Yeah this hook was a mistake. That shyt is way too soft for a Wu album. Killer track otherwise.
Preachers Daughter - 5/10 - Hook is awful. Too bad cause it had potential.
Pioneer the Frontier - 7/10 - I see this track get a lot of praise. It aint all that but goes pretty hard.
Necklace - 7/10 - Some dark shyt, that's dope. Something is missing tho...
Ron O'Neal - 7/10 - Cool track, this is some listenable stuff although that hook is WRONG. Brings down the track.
A Better Tomorrow - 8/10 - This some grown up stuff, they are grown ass men and this track reflects it nicely and respectfully. Meth killed it again.
Never Let Go - 6/10 - I like the concept and the execution from a rapping point of view but RZA tries to hard with the production. Keep it more simple this is overproduced shyt.
Wu Reunion - 7/10 - Nice closing track, its positive and once again they pull this grown man shyt off respectfully bringing back this old soul classics.
Some overproduced stuff, some awful hooks and some lack of hard grimy Wu bangas. RZA still has it sometimes but 'sometimes' and aint enough for a Clan album...
