Got this from a drone expert in another forum:
"I'm in the drone business so does anyone have pictures and not just talking points? Drones are not cheap and even delivery drones can cost 50k, so if people are suggesting car size or large enough to have blue beams there really isn't much out there to do this.
If I were to guess I would want to know the speed and time they are in the air. If they use lipo batteries with even two big 16000 mah batteries on a larger multi-rotor drone will only see about 20 mins of use, and two of those batteries will be 2500+ dollars. If a small engine, then much more airtime, but you do not get something like a multi-rotor from gas, so in that case it would most likely be a pusher one prop motor.
Lift is the key here so where is the lift coming from? Multi-rotor quickly uses a lot of power for lift. If the done has even small wings and can direct the multi-rotors in a more forward direction, then you get some free lift effects from the wings that increase overall time/range some.
Saying all that, what we might be seeing is more of a blimp style drone that have become more and more advanced in style. They can look like anything you want, are much cheaper, be any size, and since the lift part is free they can stay up a long time on an electric push prop motor. They would not be fast and that is why I also ask what is the speed of these things."
So my question is, are these things floating like balloons or do they have some zip. Notice what he mentioned the cost would be and the energy needed.
