The whole xbox360 winning the generation thing (for the first half) was always misrepresented. people forget that while the 360 was leading the ps3 that generation it was because it released a year earlier. The PS2 was also still effectively outselling the 360 after the ps3 came out. The ps2 sold an additional 50 million units after the next generation started. Look at the PS2 sales compared to 360, it almost doubles it
so not only did the PS2 outsell the 360 for the reminder of its production cycle but Sony was also selling the PSP at the time which sold close to 70 million units itself.
sony was selling 3 different hardware products at a large rate that generation, the fact that the PS3 still outpaced it is even more embarrassing for xbox.
xbox and playstation were never close in hardware sales

Yep, they cut the generation short to race the 360 out, which is why it had such larger numbers of hardware failures.
the original xbox generation only lasted 4 years
360 era becomes more of an outlier every year sadly.

The PS3 vs 360 era was really a race. Sony started out slow but gained speed mid race. While the 360 started out fast but slowed down mid race.
Sony started out a year later and still beat xbox, it wasn’t that slow
If GTA VI and a few other heavy hitter projects release within the next half of the generation, that PS5 units sold could creep up on the PS4 total sales or even more.
