“Hey Vince, it’s Ted Turner on the phone. Just wanted to let you know I’ve gotten into the wrestling business too.”

“We’re in separate businesses because I’m in the entertainment business.”

Vince himself has spoken about saying that to Turner.

That doesnt really change what breh said at all.

The WWE HoF is basically a Hollywood Walk of Fame. It has no merit for people to join, along with personal politics denying people like Macho and Chyna recognition before they died.

Not to mention that WWE picks its own people in politics to be main eventers, not allowing its own talent to do its work.

Where do people get this from...

That's like saying Russell Simmons hates hip-hop music so that's why he did TV and clothes, or Berry Gordy hated R&B so he tried movies...

Vince just isn't good with these other ventures, that's all. It's been obvious from the get-go that he didn't just wanna be a 'wrestling promoter', you can tell that just from all the other stuff he was doing with the WWF (MTV, toys, cartoons, etc)... now this shyt with football, bodybuilding (which was the most ridiculous), etc- none of it is his forte but I don't get why people assume it's because he "hates wrestling". Most successful people in entertainment (on the business side) don't just do that one thing if there's other shyt they're interested in.

It's never been flat out said that he hates wrestling, but the signs ate out there that he isn't the most fond of it.

I mean, they put on a minimum of seven hours of wrestling per week, and you're lucky if you ever hear it referred to as wrestling.

The make sure to use as little common wrestling slang as possible, to the point where even common stuff that gets used in combat sports like "belt" is discouraged.

But Vince usually fails in his other interests for the same reason other people who succeed in very specific/niche industries fail in outside ventures. He's approached nearly everything else with the same kind of promotion and business approach as wrestling. That shyt ain't working in the worlw of football, or music, or movies.

What's weird is that he has a chance of getting a mild success out of the XFL. It's coming along at a time when a vocal minority of the NFL's fanbase wants something that pitches itself as being fan-focused, and does shyt like saying everyone stands for the anthem to "avoid controversy". There's also the reality that on opening day/night/whatever when that shyt launches, Trump will mobilize his Twitter brigade to support for at least the first few weeks. Bonus points if their season actually takes place alongside NFL season. Unfortunately, I can envision his bullshyt ass tweet now. :beli:

Vince himself has spoken about saying that to Turner.

That is what he's considered it to be, it's always been referred to as that, and always been presented as that. Doesn't mean he hates wrestling.

Wrestling is still the center of WWE, always has been, but it's always incorporated other things... it's the same reason other companies/promoters used to criticize the WWF and call it a 'circus'. The other guys didn't believe in bringing in celebs, skits, or having snakes and birds and shyt. It always had a more "commercial" presentation, which is literally the reason it became as big as it did. It's never been run as a strictly "professional wrestling" show, the same way everyone else was doing it. That's why even to this day, you'll hear older people tell you they never liked WWF/E because it wasn't like the "real wrestling" they grew up watching. He just never wanted to run it the same way Bill Watts, Verne Gagne, or Jim Crockett wanted to. He didn't even do it quite the same way his father did.

None of this, however, means the guy "HATES WRESTLING". To say he hates it would mean like, he never wanted anything to do with it or doesn't give a fk about it despite numerous obvious things to the contrary.

This right here.

That warehouse and land is huge, if Vince was smart enough he'd see how much money he's waisting not turning it into a hof/museum like all the major sports do.
Wrestlemania Axxess is basically what the HOF wouid be, they go all out every year to make that convention a spectacle.

I wonder if they feel like that's part of the allure for WM weekend and would rather keep it tied into that week/weekend as opposed to a year round museum.

I can see why someone would turn it down. You gotta sign a Legends deal to go along with it, and give them a cut of any bookings you get while under the deal. So, you get a little surge in bookings for conventions and shyt, but have to accept that Vince and co have a heated interest in what you do now. If you're someone like Steiner who's still getting steady bookings without them, it doesn't really make sense to do it right now.
Jeez, they take a cut from Indy bookings? Pimp Daddy McMahon ain’t playing. :picard:

If I remember correctly, yeah. Especially if it's a case where they own the name, and they go out using that name again.

shyt,. technically speaking, anyone could book CURRENT talent to appear on their show of they wanted to. They just have to abide by any stipulations they put up for the appearance (usually that the talent's involvement can't be streamed or on DVD/VOD), they pay the WWE mandated booking fee (which is usually unreasonable for a smaller fed, unless WWE is in the mood to be charitable and give them a discount, or lay the groundwork for raiding their roster later), and obviously negotiate it through WWE at one point or another. Allegedly WWE gets a cut of that fee. I'm actually surprised they don't do it more with how overloaded their roster is.
