You mean to ask if Kobe bought into the offense or not? Honestly I think he really did, but whether his statements to the media were just him being politically correct or just saying shyt, who knows. I honestly think that he wanted to make the offense work though. Last year Bynum was in Brown's doghouse because Bynum is a free spirit and Brown runs a tight ship.
There were plenty of games where Kobe should've let the offense flow through Bynum more rather than forcing shots on nights where he was off. Regardless, now that Brown is gone, I think it will make a difference. As soon as they made the hire way back when for Brown, I knew his life span there would be limited. Mike Brown just doesn't command respect. He's not an idiot, he's just a poor leader and I doubt everyone truly had his back like they claimed.
Giving Mike Brown a head coaching position for the Lakers is like giving a kid that can't drive stick a brand new Ferrari. I just don't think he ever had true command and confidence in maintaining control of the team and I think the players lack of giving a fukk reflects that.
The problem is, in sports, especially basketball, X's and O's are great to a point, but the latter isn't even a big deal to necessarily have from a head coach. That's why you have a staff of assistants who specialize in a specific part of the offense, defense, shooting whatever it is, that's what delegating is for. Whether it's old age, lack of hustle, poor disciplinewhatever it is, the Lakers were just not running back on defense, being careless with the ball, etc. A coach is responsible for motivating and micromanaging guys' work ethic and discipline on the court. Brown failed in that regard, but he shouldn't be getting all the blame that he's getting from some people, but he had to fall on his sword because that's part of the responsibility that comes with being a head coach.
