DJ Funkmaster Flex was not done with his verbal attack against Jay Z. Over the weekend the Hot 97 radio personality went in on the Brooklyn emcee once again. After his first rant aimed at Jay’s website Life+Times, Flex’s second comments included more direct shots at the Roc Nation boss.
“In 2015, you are a commercial, corporate rapper that drops a little catchphrase every three months,” said Flex. “There’s nothing wrong with that. I think that’s super dope. Don’t talk to me funny in the text, bruh. I don’t work for you.”
The statement connects to a text Jay supposedly sent to Flex that the DJ posted to his Instagram page. The text read “This is HOV.” The caption for the picture alleged that Jay attempted to call Flex from a private number, and after he was unable to get through he sent the text.

While Flex’s voice was not as aggressive in the follow-up rant and there were not the signature bomb drops throughout, he still made it clear he has issues with Jay for capitalizing his name in the text. Flex also stated that he is not afraid of the multimillionaire mogul.
“We not scared of you. This radio station doesn’t need you or care. Actually, the whole company doesn’t need you. You can’t call the bosses like you do other things,” Flex added. “Stop having people call me. It’s nonsense. I’m not picking up and I don’t have anything to say cause I don’t wanna talk to you. That’s that.”
Flex then warned Jay if he ever sends a subliminal shot at him on a record the result would be a daily radio assault against the rapper. Flex also said Jay needs to understand that he is not the only boss in New York City.
The audio also featured Flex giving compliments to Jay’s business moves and music, but he addressed supposed “manipulation” at Def Jam as well. He even called out Jay for not congratulating J. Cole’s success with 2014 Forest Hills Drive.
“This my city. You ain’t above me bro,” Flex declares.
Flex also went back to Instagram to dispel rumors that Jay was planning to buy Hot 97. He wrote, “Yeah Right! We good over here! They not buying s**t!”

does jay even use producers from new York anymore besides swizz beatz?:yeshrug:

The rapper pushes the sound...

Southern producers eating because their rappers push their sound

look at those young ATL cats...

Well, what exactly is a NY sound anyway? Don't tell me you think Preemo beats is what should be poppin in NY. Fact is, NY has pretty much lost it's identity. I always found it hilarious when cats was sayin Dipset was running NY when those Heatmakers joints borrowed so heavily from the South.

i dealt (and still do) with people in "the industry" so i know it's some type of common practice, though i only dealt with people that were thoro fortunately.

the timing of flex airing all this out RIGHT NOW is wild suspect though.. Cant y'all see it.? :ld:

Dude was all over the magna carta promo when it came out, he was playing that sorry ass album all day everyday then why not airing this out then? why not talk about the app thing then? :ehh:

and as far as j cole, since roc nation started, jay has been more hands off with his artists like the breh @vampire xtc mentionned earlier in this thread. Seems like he learned from his roc a fella days mistakes. :yeshrug:

just saying breh :manny:

everything you're saying would make perfect sense, if Flex hadn't spelled out REPEATEDLY what this beef was over

if jay-z's web site hadn't have contacted him again about the dipset reunion, this thread wouldn't even exist

so what do you mean timing?

why are you cats acting like he just woke up and decided to hate on Jay-z?

all i'm saying is that the music industry does this shyt all the time, only at the more corporate level

jay-z learned this from those snakes in suits he hangs around all the time now and Flex ain't having it...

are you about making albums or singles?

southern music at this point is singles driven

NY Music besides Bad Boy was always more album based type music rather than something that would be designed to hit top 40 like a southern joint

You cant say ny lost its identity and then try to dismiss a cat like preemo...

When cats like preemo are at the roots of the ny identity during the 90s...

In saying that, RZA had the right mindset with the new wu tang album..

But it was executed poorly and with the wrong group of people...

As far as the heatmakerz borrowing from the south, the south borrowed from mantronix and showboys..:yeshrug:

Lil Jon blew up cause the hoes liked that over boom bap. So HOV pushed the southern sound and threw NY in the bushes intentionally?

Jay is the reason NY has fell off. Between him and 50 they have supressed so many NY artists on some purely hater shyt. Disgusting and part of the reason NY is irrelevant today. Thank God for the South for saving rap music...:blessed:
You sound silly man. Like a bytch even. As if there's just all of this suppressed talent in NY that's just not getting the opportunity to be heard. Jay Z and 50 haven't stopped shyt. NY rap scene fell off because the ppl of NY have fallen off.

For the record, Hot 97 is going heavy with Jays music this morning. I'm streaming and I just heard "Run This Town" followed directly by "Roc Boys". Those aren't even latest album hits, are they sending a message?
