Would you still game as much as you do if AAA gaming died?

Would you still game much as you do without AAA game releases?

  • Of course, i love games, i actually enjoy indies more than AAA

  • Eh, I’d still game but not nearly as much

  • Naw, I’d probably find another hobby

Say from this point on we only get indie/AA budget games, so stuff like Hades, Vampire Survivor, Pentiment, Kena, Stray, Enter The Gungeon, with maybe the biggest budget stuff being stuff like Life is Strange, Sifu, It Takes Two, etc?

I think max dev budget would be something like 25-30m a game.

I thought about this, cause I do play a good amount of indie games but I don’t thnk it would be enough to motivate me to keep heavily investing in gaming, financially and time wise (discussions about it, etc)

Like i can’t imagine going out and buying a 500 dollar console and a bunch of accessories to play silksong in 4k

On a serious note, there will always be triple A games because people like to create big massive high quality and detail worlds and gaming experiences.

I'd be way more happy if we got way fewer Triple A games that came out and when they are coming out and didn't get a bunch of hype or press, instead of how it is now.

In the meantime double A and indie games would do just fine.

yep, indie and AA are where the interesting games are at

Yup triple A games use to be where you would get new experiences so on top of them being like the best looking and quality, they would have cool new experimental features or different takes on gameplay and combat. Now Triple A games are reserved for proven story beats, mechanics and gameplay loops that work on mass level and are tested. It's a huge reason I've been bored with most triple A games for almost a decade now.

The exception to this rule is...

You probably guessed it, Nintendo. They take risk with their hardware and 1st party games. This latest Zelda game is the only zelda game where I kinda knew what to expect and even with that *I hear* that the game still takes risk and is full of surprises.

Nintendo is great at mixing what works at the core with something completely new and left field. Minus pokemon...which is what it is.

But yeah some of the best gaming I've had in recent years has been indie and double A games. :manny:
