The original slide was put in place in 1967, according to the Detroit Free Press. The current structure replaced the original slide at some point in the 1980s

Figured. I'm surprised it lasted through the 2000s and 2010s. Just looking at the videos and photos, it's a refreshing nostalgia trip to questionable means of thrill seeking that existed pre-2010s.
