DETROIT, MI -- A grand reopening for one of Michigan’s most famous slides was swiftly followed by its indefinite closure.

The giant slide on Detroit’s Belle Isle was closed Friday afternoon -- about five hours after it was reopened -- officials from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced in a statement on the Belle Isle Park Facebook page.

“We are going to be making some adjustments to the speed that we have seen users coming down today,” officials said. “Hopefully after our small adjustment we will be back up and running and the slide will be slower for more enjoyment.”

Officials said an update on the slide’s hours of operation will be posted soon. As of Saturday morning, it is unknown when the attraction will reopen again.

The slide was reopened Friday morning after being shut down the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the reopening, videos posted to social media showed patrons taking the $1 trip down the 40-feet tall, some experiencing a rougher ride that they might have anticipated.

The original slide was put in place in 1967, according to the Detroit Free Press. The current structure replaced the original slide at some point in the 1980s.

These slides been around forever.

These p*ssy ass plastic slides they got now......:camby:

In fact that's what it is. The folks are used to shytty playground equipment having to push yourself down the slide.

You get on this and are supposed to lay down and just slide, not grab the sides and sling yourself down.

I don't know how or why but I read a book on playground equipment, back to the 1800's.

Kids were literally playing on steel girders. Swinging from a 2x4 attached to chains, hung from metal pipes or girders.

No kiddie colored paints, no cartoon characters, shyt just looked mad depressing. Like a playground in Auschwitz.
