Let's say there is a job offer you have, but there are crazy stipulations

Job Info
  • Remote/WFH anywhere in the country
  • 8-10 hour days M-F
  • Major Holidays Off
  • 4 weeks PTO/12 Sick Days
  • 10% minimum annual bonus and up to 15% max

Stipulations
  • You have to allow the company to install cameras in your home to monitor your work day
    • Cameras are only active during your work hours. After work you may shut them off
  • You may not use your phone during work hours unless an emergency or work related
  • You are not allowed to use any other devices outside of work devices. No TV, headphones, laptop etc..
  • You must allow company access to your medical records to verify any sick time and doctor visits
  • You must allow the company access to your social media
  • You have to sign a minimum 5 year contract with the company. If you leave before that, legal action will be taken against you.

Would you take it?

This sounds absolutely miserable.

The problem with monitoring someone's work day is that unless you're doing manual labor, retail or something like data entry, monitoring hours is a fruitless pursuit because it measures time spent working and not efficiency. When I had an office job, I worked at 10-6 but I could easily finish the work I needed to get done within a couple of hours but these companies want to feel like they're paying for something & they have an investment in commercial real estate so they need you in the office.

There's no point in making 350K a year if you can't enjoy it and as someone who's had 400K just sitting on my desk for no reason, I can tell you, I want to enjoy it.
