Would most shows still be funny without the laugh track?

Obviously it's subjective, but shows like Martin, Married with Children, Seinfeld would have a lot of moments that people probably wouldn't find funny depending on their cultural knowledge (if it weren't for the laugh track).

Do you think that a laugh track makes laughter contagious like in real life? Obviously, it won't make you laugh every time, but there must be times that a laugh track will probably help you to laugh at a moment in a show that you may have otherwise missed.

How y'all feel about it (try not to think of it as an experienced viewer of that particular show, but rather think about it as a human in general).

Also, what are the funniest shows that don't have a laugh track of any sort?

*I know that cartoons don't have laugh tracks and are still funny, but that's animation so it's different.

At this point I'm so used to it doesn't even matter. I read somewhere that those laugh tracks are from like the 50s and they just reusing the same ones

They’d be funnier cuz laugh track is annoying
Yes, it usually is annoying when shows over-do it, but it may be necessary for some shows.

As far as Curb your Enthusiasm, they don't have a laugh track, but they do employ some other audio cues, don't they? Or they'll have that crazy ass music startup to let people know that it's a funny moment (especially when Larry gets into those staring contests).

I wonder how funny most of us would find the Cosby show, King of Queens, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, etc without a laugh track.

I was thinking about the music in Curb. They don't always use it, but yes sometimes it is a cue for a joke.

not a fan of any shows with a laugh track, i feel like it's pretty much insults your intelligence and treats the audience like they are idiots on some "here this is funny, laugh now you fukking sheep!" this is pretty much why I haven't watched network sitcoms since I was a teen and wised up...

be original and actually humorous rather than relying on essentially peer pressure from a laugh track for forced laughs...it's no different that when horror movies use abrupt, loud music for cheap jump scares which I hate too.

fukk that gimmick shyt...
