Would crime decrease if we adopted public extreme punishments?

I have always been a supporter of something like that. I think we should bring back stocks and public whippings.

For some dudes there's no fear of getting caught because they are comfortable doing time. They get 3 meals and rec time. If these same dudes were out in Singapore they'd be church going librarians.

it just makes people riskier if they have to commit those crimes. They're gonna go out shootin' takin their enemies wit em or leave the police scars so they'll never forget em rather than being caught.

But nah, I thought that was the point of the death penalty.

Might as well remove cruel and unusal punishment from the constitution....

But I wouldn't mind if an eye for eye policy was instituted for rapist. Imo, this should be mandatory, but then that creates a cycle of even more emotional scared people....

There is no correlation between the perceived severity of punishment for a crime, and its deterrence. The countries with the worst drug problems also have the strongest drug laws.

In the Islamic Republic of Iran, heroin possession is punishable by death, but yet it has the worlds worst problem.

In America crack cocaine laws are much longer than powder cocaine laws, but yet this is able to happen

In those cases it just increases the profit and price of illegal drugs because there is more risk involved.

We need to focus on educating our population, and ending the drug war. Not extreme punishments.
