I remember when I noticed my cousin was extra friendly with dudes i.e if anyone said hi to her on the street or some yo babes shyt, she'd be like 'HI 
Thanks so much! Have a lovely day' with some big smile and keep walking. At the time I was like 
just ignore them.
But she said after living in the hood the worst thing she could do was be rude so she smiles seems friendly then walks away the dudes usually feel content with that. Sad chicks have to take those kinda measures but its real outchea some dudes are nuts.

On the flip side, some females LIKE being approached.I'm in Phoenix right now and I bumped into a chick out here from New York.I made a comment about her accent that lead to a bigger conversation.Found out she's only been in Phoenix for 6 weeks.
At the end of our lil talk, she said something that struck me(especially now, framed up against this thread/subject)

This is the secret to all the bullshyt.God didn't give women feminine charm for no reason.It's their best defense against shyt like this IMO.
Instead of sneering, rolling your eyes, and sucking your teeth--SMILE--be pleasant--and if you have to, tell a lie, make it gentle "Thanks for the compliment.You're so sweet, but I already have a boyfriend" CHARM THESE nikkaZ BACK!
Those are things that trigger a man's protective instincts....Not saying you won't run into the exceptional nutty muthafukka here or there, but carrying yourself in a feminine/pleasant manner is a good way to cut down the hostility.
