With "The Cloud" on the horizon will the PS4 stifle innovation?

I don't see this cloud stuff feasible yet because no one really has the servers for it outside of msft, Google, and Amazon.

2 I don't see third parties lining up to spend more money and implement more things for something that hasn't proved to be a viable commodity over the long run. If it can be used for gfx fidelity w/ out sacrificing gameplay then yes I see people jumping on board, because gfx sell games. It's hard to sell real physics tho.

Agreed, unless it's streaming, the console itself is still handling the graphics. And unless MS gives a nice discount to use Azure (fat chance of that shyt by the way), it's gonna be hard to convince the EAs, Activisions, Take 2s, etc. to move their shyt to Azure.

I think it will happen eventually where streaming will probably even replace consoles, but not for at least 2 gens from now. So all of this will eventually become a moot point.

The limitation on used games and being locked out of playing your shyt offline was a huge part of where MS fukked up in their XB1 unveiling with that DRM shyt. The hardware itself strength wise was another dagger, and the final price was all she wrote. All of these will be fixed next gen, but even then, it will never outsell Playstation due to worldwide brand recognition and support.

If this cloud shyt takes off, I still don't think it will be enough. But if MS can continue to showcase it's strengths in better hardware next gen, I'd cop in a heartbeat.

Microsoft is willing to basically give server time away compared to the prices of other cloud companies, at least for Xbox games they are, I don't know how it would work for games on other systems. That's why I said it would be up to Microsoft and Sony to come to an agreement of some sort, or it would be up to Sony to get their cloud infrastructure up to snuff. Most devs are already paying for servers, so I'm not sure it would cost that much more to implement the tech. Especially with Microsoft pushing as aggressively as they are.

And i disagree with physics not being a selling point. Leveloution was a huge selling point for Battlfield. And physics/realism is a huge selling point for sports titles and even something like GTA where they could use the cloud to make the world more believable/realistic.

You'd be surprised breh...I learned years ago that I'm not the average consumer. nikkaz with no cable having big ass HDTVs and shyt or basic coax hookups into their shyt. Not even an indoor hdtv antenna to get locals in HD.

Those people are in a minority and do not stop devs/pubs from using the Internet to innovate.

I don't ever see it really being used in sports games due to those games being peer to peer connections. That's not happening.

Games like BF and other shooters is definitely where it gets interesting and would absolutely benefit. However, control of their own servers may not be something that EA and its devs would be willing to give up (even though they should in the case of BF, these out of region mufukkaz are ruining the game and Dice has said that they need more servers to combat the issue to "fix" it). :birdman:
