Ppv? :why: As a floyd stan I cannot defend this.
Espinoza made it a point to say that there was no way they were gonna be able to secure ad space on network television in such a short time.

The ad space is bought ahead of time especially and ad-space for September was already wrapped up by May.

According to those statements, if true, broadcasting the fight on CBS was never a real option.

Mayweather: Khan Must Beat Danny Garcia To Get a Shot
Posted by: Keith Idec on 8/6/2015 .

Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s explanation Thursday for why he didn’t pick Amir Khan as his Sept. 12 opponent was similar to the rationale of countless critics that didn’t want Mayweather-Khan to happen.

“Amir Khan has to get past Danny Garcia first,” Mayweather told Showtime’s Brian Custer in an interview that followed the Mayweather-Andre Berto press conference in Los Angeles.

“Once Amir Khan can get past Danny Garcia, then … you know, the fight would’ve happened. But that’s not my focus. My focus is Andre Berto, a guy I can’t overlook, a former two-time world champion. He’s dedicated to the sport, just like myself, and he’s going to push me.”

Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) knocked out Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) in the fourth round of their July 2012 junior welterweight title fight in Las Vegas. The 28-year-old Khan has won five consecutive fights since Garcia stopped him and would’ve been a more marketable opponent than Berto, but the polarizing British star has drawn criticism over the years for failing to pursue rematches with Philadelphia’s Garcia and Colombia’s Breidis Prescott (28-7, 21 KOs), who knocked out Khan in the first round of their September 2008 bout in Manchester, England.

Mayweather on Thurman: Good Fight For Him is Spence
Posted by: Jake Donovan on 8/6/2015 .

While a press conference held Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles to formally announce his September 12 showdown with Andre Berto, there seemed to be greater concern over the fighters Floyd Mayweather isn’t facing.

Amir Khan and Shawn Porter were among the welterweights who were snubbed for the September 12 date at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather insists that the event will be the last fight of his illustrious career, leaving fans to hope that a stronger opponent would have been selected.

His most ardent supporters will find ways to list reasons as to why neither of the aforementioned deserve such an opportunity at this time. It’s a bit tougher to pick apart the buildup for Keith Thurman, however—unless of course your only argument is that the pound-for-pound and box office king has earned the right to choose as he pleases after beating Manny Pacquiao in the most celebrated event in boxing history.

The unbeaten welterweight titlist from Clearwater, Florida has been tabbed by many as one of the can’t miss stars of the future and has repeatedly called out Mayweather whenever the subject arises.

When the future Hall of Famer was pressed on the subject himself, the defending World welterweight champion switched to his promoter’s hat.

“Don’t really know too much about him,” Mayweather (48-0, 26KOs) told Showtime’s Brian Custer when asked about Thurman, who is coming off of an 8th round stoppage of Luis Collazo this past July in primetime on ESPN. “Seen him a couple of times.”

Prior to his headlining the first edition of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on ESPN, Thurman played the starring role in the first PBC show on any network. The 26-year old welterweight outpointed Robert Guerrero—a former titlist and past Mayweather in-ring victim—in the inaugural installment of PBC on NBC, with the bout hitting a peak audience of 4 million viewers.

Still his star on the rise isn’t enough to impress Mayweather, who instead would like to see him get down with a young fighter from the Mayweather Promotions stable.

“I think a good fight for him is Errol Spence,” Mayweather said of Thurman’s potential future.

Spence—an unbeaten welterweight from Texas who served on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Boxing team in London—is coming off of a 3rd round knockout win over Phil Lo Greco this past June on NBC. His next fight is slated for September 11 in Toronto-the night before Mayweather-Berto—against an opponent to be determined on a PBC on Spike TV broadcast.

Mayweather Says He Reviewed 147, Berto Was Best Pick

WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd "Money" Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) is not regretting his selection of Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) as the Showtime Pay-Per-View opponent for September 12 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Mayweather says he reviewed the entire welterweight division and found Berto to be the perfect for what Floyd's is calling the "final fight" of his pro career.

There has been a mountain of criticism over the fight. Berto has gone 3-3 in his last six fights and two of those defeats came against fighters, Robert Guerrero and Victor Ortiz, who Mayweather already beat.

Due to the circumstances of both fighters, the oddsmakers have listed Berto as one of the largest underdogs in the history of pay-per-view fights of this level. Some betting outlets have him as big as an 80-1 underdog.

"When you look at the two divisions I fight in, there's one man who stands all alone. I looked at the division and asked who's always in a tough exciting fight, who has quick hands and who always gives it 100 percent, it was Andre Berto," Mayweather said. "This is a guy I can't overlook. He's dedicated to the sport just like myself and he's going to push me."

WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) has bombarded on Thursday night by reporters who questioned his decision to face massive underdog Andre Berto on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

There were other options, like WBA 'regular' champion Keith Thurman and British star Amir Khan - who's been chasing Mayweather for the last two years.

Mayweather sees nothing that makes Khan a better option than Berto - at least right now. Both Khan and Berto share the same trainer in Virgil Hunter.

"How many championships has Khan won, two. Berto has won two also," Mayweather said.

Berto is seen as a big underdog by the press and the oddsmakers - with betting circles having him listed as small as a 40-1 underdog and as big as an 80-1 underdog.

Mayweather sees him as a very dangerous challenger who will push him to the limit.
"I have been getting backlash," Mayweather said. "They say no one in the sport will buy the fight. I picked him because he is an exciting fighter. My job is to go out there and be a chess player and that is what I did. I found a way to win. Andre Berto is going to push Floyd Mayweather to the limit. That's one thing I do know."

The Sweet Science
Floyd was gonna win 8-10 rounds on his way to a UD no matter who he fought. I can only guess he chose Berto because of the 3 (con, Keith, Berto) Berto is the only one who might be crazy enough to keep
throwing punches. I believe hes looking for a pressure fighter who will give him alotta openings to counter off of while Con and Thurman have a sense of self preservation and will probably be like every other fighter and just start coasting to collect the check

yall act like thurman and khan deserve the fight or something lol
they dont. they are just better candidates than berto
at this point, no one deserves the floyd fight
so he picked berto cause he always wanted to whip him
it is what it is

the fact of the matter is, there is always gonna be SOMEONE that boxing fans say floyd shoulda fought, ducked, or didn't move up to fight
its nit picking at this point

let that boy retire in peace:wow:
How exactly do you figure that Khan and Thurman don't "deserve" to fight Floyd?
Amir Khan is the WBC Silver Champ and #1 contender to Floyd's WBC belt.
Keith Thurman is the WBA "Regular" Champ and mandatory challenger to Floyd's WBA "Super" title.
Floyd can fight who he wants and if he feels that Berto is a soft enough touch then more power to him but this nonsense that Khan and Thurman are somehow not worthy or deserving of fighting Floyd is just ridiculous.
Both dudes have the exact same level of worthiness that Robert Guerrero had when Floyd decided to fight him.

Mayweather: Khan Must Beat Danny Garcia To Get a Shot
Posted by: Keith Idec on 8/6/2015 .

By Keith Idec

By Jake Donovan

Posted by: Edward Chaykovsky on 8/7/2015 .

By Edward Chaykovsky

Mayweather: Khan Won Two Titles? So Did Andre Berto!
Posted by: Edward Chaykovsky on 8/7/2015 .
By Edward Chaykovsky

Khan has to beat Garcia....but Berto doesnt have to beat Guerrero, Ortiz, or Karass?:beli:

You expect us to believe you dont know anything about Keith Thurman?:francis:

Berto was the best pick Floyd?:jbhmm:

:snoop:
Floyd already said he was gonna take it easy so any of his reasons are hollow. So, should we expect him to say that he wants to take it easy for his final fight when he now has to promote it?

You just never get it breh:snoop:

Floyd said out of his own mouth, that he was looking to fight an "easy opponent" and was picking between Karim Mayfield & Andre Berto....he never considered Khan or Thurman or even Porter at all, so to say we acting like anything holds no weight.:camby:

Floyd chooses Berto and says “Once Amir Khan can get past Danny Garcia, then … you know, the fight would’ve happened", basically falling back on Khan having Garcia problems. But yet, he's chosen a guy who's lost 3 times in his last 6 fights, including losing to 2 guys Floyd already defeated, however there are no "Once Andre Berto can get past Jesus Soto-Karass, then...you know, the fight would've happened" statements from Floyd. That's blatant cherry picking, we all KNEW he was picking Berto...hell, he called him an easy opponent himself, so why is he acting like he was even considering Khan? That's something he shouldnt even said, because it's just trying to save face because he knows this fight is bullshyt, but he cant say it because the casuals are watching. However, us hardcores are watching too:birdman:

Floyd pretends he doesnt know much about Thurman....but yet he says he thinks it will be a good fight for Spence? How would he think that if he doesnt know much about Thurman? Thurman has been his mandatory since May 2014 and a guy people have been calling for him to fight since 2013, but yet Floyd doesnt know him.:beli:

Floyd pretends Berto is the best pick at Welterweight, when again he called him an easy opponent already just 6 weeks ago, but now he is a person he "cant overlook":francis:

You cant see Floyd is the one building resentment for him taking this fight, not us?:dwillhuh:

Everyone on here was cool with him taking Mayfield or Berto after beating Pacquiao, especially if it was on CBS. However, he's flipped the entire script, putting it on PPV for $74.95, calling Berto an opponent he cant overlook, and basically calling him the best fighter out there for him to fight......we supposed to act like casuals and pretend we ALL dont know Berto got his ass beat by Ortiz, Guerrero, JSK, struggled with Steve Upsher Chambers, AND Lopez until he caught him and KOd him?:dahell:

Stop playing breh.:snoop:
