Rock's agents have not done him any favors in terms of getting him perceived as a good actor. Fast And Furious is popular, but it's popcorn movie stuff. All his roles have been clowns. And that results in him remaining a carny artifact while Dave has escaped from wrestling entirely, putting him in a higher category of performer.

Rock is too big (literally and figuratively) to be considered for a serious leading role where he’s not kicking someone’s ass or playing/coaching sports.

Can you imagine the rock in a serious Oscar bait movie? The closest thing that I can see him play is a Denzel like character in a movie similar to training day. Even then, his performance wouldn’t be close to Denzel’s
