Coworkers and me were talking about this

With ATC in the news, and people realizing that we’re short staffed and we need bodies and can pay well (170k+ at a center), work half your shift and the other half is breaks, great retirement pension and TSP

But having alot on your shoulders, potential for people to die, weird schedule

What does the normal person think about ATC?

Would you do it if you could right now?

I’ve walked in tower and took a tour there before. I believe it’s one hour on then one hour off for their shifts.

It takes a certain type of individual. Certain airports I think aren’t too bad. But Atlanta Hartsfield airport? You gotta have a love for that. Like a true love and desire to be sequencing and having that type of responsibility on your hands.

The money is def there.

I worked for an airline and heard about that hustle. All them money in the world wouldn’t get me in that tower.
:whoa:
That said, why are yall short staffed? I have a homegirl who passed the test and still working as an ops agent for an airline.
:patrice:
Is AI coming for yall job as well or are their too many variables to be replaced? I think planes will be pilotless or droned by 2040. Does that mean yall tower boys can get replaced as well?

Hopefully your homegirl decides to take the offer if it’s still there for her

A lot of variables for why we’re short. Lack of foresight from the government, they don’t allocate enough $$ to get more people to the FAA academy or even to open up another location or allow training straight to a facility

Also I think they’ve been getting along just fine (until it being in the news recently) with less bodies so there comfortable just making it work

I don’t see non human pilots or ATC in our lifetime

We still have non radar areas in segments of my low sector I work. The equipment just isn’t there

Got a couple of “yes” and one “no”.. I always assumed that people just weren’t even aware of ATC

The Truth
Had an ex-family member who was one..

He’s a walking pissbag though, so can’t judge yall for that.

From what I heard though, stressful job (one of the most) and they have things up there to help them try to destress while on shift if breaks happen.

Other than that, not so much about ATC. I know they get paid well but the quality of life is usually trash.
