My heart goes out to him but I can't do anything for him. If a million black men pleaded with congress to lower medication costs it would fall on deaf ears. Get a couple hundred white people though, they'll listen. Still might not do it but they'll listen.

Asthma hits everyone. Feeling terrible someone dies of an asthma attack is hardly being a Trump supporter

If Walgreens say that they couldn't fulfill the prescription because of the policy that changed in October 2023, where did he get his previous inhalers from? Or did Walgreens implement the policy starting in Jan 2025?

And forgive my ignorance, but if Walgreens was charging him $550 for an inhaler, could he not go to another pharmacy?

Did I miss where it was mentioned who he voted for and what political party he is in? I ask, because we have a few in this thread acting like he got what he deserved, like they know whom he supported in the election.

Also @Absolut is right, these changes that caused him to lose his life happened during the previous administration, over a year before the election.

"According to Newsweek, Walgreens suddenly refused to cover the prescription under insurance after OptumRX allegedly changed its policy in fall 2023."

So this had nothing to do with the changes happening now.

Their donors are healthcare insurers. People been pleading for decades. The only way to change it is to vote out moderates and conservatives

It does affect everyone however managing it is not in our hands and having a bleeding heart ain't gonna fix it or make it better, especially from black people. I guarantee this will affect more black people than white. But we can't change the system. We need solutions, not sympathy.

RIP! I hate how shytty American healthcare is with a passion

This is how my cousin died. They found her on the floor with her inhaler in her hand. It's been almost 20 years but it still terrifies me thinking of her last moments

My kids have asthma. If I got a SHYTTY price for a medicine (and all of us have at one point) you will go around the clock to get that bad boy filled if you need it daily to live. Get a partial, go to your regular doctor to get a generic, call your insurance and be like WTF until you get a resolution. Hit up GoodRx, singlecare, call around, get the RX transferred if you got to.

I'm not here to blame him but waiting 5 days for a must have medication does fall on him to a degree. No fukkin way do you do nothing

Thanks for taking time out to explain things to me.

I find the US healthcare system needlessly complicated.

Pharmacist could have easily told him to get that primatene mist inhaler over the counter until the insurance company figures it out

It's a pain in the ass but a quick call to his insurer or getting a rebate coupon from the manufacturer is better than nothing. If he took advair for example or symbicort go to the website and look for a coupon.

Or make a call to your insurance and see if they'll cover the generic instead and then have your doctor write the prescription for generic. It's a complete pain in the butt I get it but if you need it to live you make the time to do it.

It's like if you got EpiPen but the generic is epinephrine. EpiPen sells off name but epinephrine is the medicine that's in it and it's a substantially cheaper generic.

If it's a life or death medication going home for 5 days is not an option. I can only think he went into straight panic mode and did nothing.

I do think people have just come to take it as this is just the way it is. Maybe with stories like this, Luigi popping the CEO, and the current administration going wild, people will realize that we can change and be more fired up to dismantle the system
