Her father must be very disappointed. She should be a Doctor or an engineer.

Think she’s talking about her literal father (naive) brehs

Depends. Her father could be an oligarch and not give a damn.

ive met a lot of African immigrants just struggling or trying to do the engineer/doctor/lawyer grind . But i have been occasionally shocked to meet children of ministers and bussiness people in America. The folks who have hustled or stolen enough to be USD wealthy in their own African country.

In every single instance, they were extremely opaque about their source of income, and could outspend me as local and had gone to American schools for nonsense degrees. They also spoke with very native English accents despite claiming to have lived in their homelands most of their lives. Their stories never added up.

At one point, i thought itd be useful to have them as connects, but i found them genuinely slimy and slick relative to the stereotypical "struggle or be a doctor" african immigrants. Id compare them to a few of the arab trust fund babies i encountered in college, except the arabs were super studious

I know. I'm half Nigerian and we have all-sorts in our family. I remember taking my nephew to his aunts house in Hampstead. When we got to the house, I had jump the fence because it was locked and I didn't know about rich people & intercoms.

When we got in, we walked past the indoor heated swimming and into one of the main living rooms. Turns out that his aunt got married to a high ranking (corrupt) government minister. All she had to do was be there. I found hilarious because that boy was sleeping on an air mattress at my mum's.
