the black cat is my crown...
Windows 8 is easily the smoothest iteration of Windows to date. I smell a lot of amateur PC users here, so i'll save my criticisms for another day brehs
i'm far from an amateur... i'll give win 8 one positive and one only, it's more stable than previous versions of windows...

when i updated my laptop from win 8 to win 8.1, it deleted my original logon account and i could not log back into until i created a new msn account... basically i had to log into the cloud in order to log into my pc... that's fine to give people that option, as i'm assuming the intended purpose was so people could have the same files and desktop on all computers they log onto... to force that, i take great issue with... luckily i knew how to create another admin account which was local to my laptop, then i deleted the msn account...

next, i hate the metro start screen... the programs are listed randomly... while i can move that around or sort by various criteria, it's tedious... i was fine with the start menu which was far better organized...

i also hate the metro apps that take up the entire screen... it defeats the idea of windows... you know, the op sys is supposed to have multiple realizable windows, that's what made it windows... if you can only look at one app on the screen at a time, it isn't windows to me.... yes, i know you can move apps to one side of the screen or the other, but you still can completely resize them...

i could go on... the only other thing win 8 gets a pass on from me is where win 8 is just like any previous version of windows... i pretty much hate just about all the new additions to win 8

:laff: no hate if you like the metro start screen... but all previous versions of windows always gave you the option for the classic look, except win 8.... so now we don't have a choice between the metro start screen and the start menu, we're forced to the metro start screen... and i will confess, i hate that metro start screen... even on my tablet, it's stupid.. and while yes, i can create shortcuts on my desktop, it's tedious and i hate having my desktop cluttered with shortcuts... ms dropped the ball, bruh...

I don't see how you can really fault MS, for trying to attract a younger audience.

If your main complaint is not having the option of reverting back to the classic style, I don't see how this can't be easily addressed in an update moving forward...

i'm not mad at that... just don't force us all into that.... it's all about choices....

i'm kewl with them making it the default, just give me the choice to revert to the classic...

You'll get use to it and that's what MS is banking on. If it's forced upon you, you have no choice. But in all honesty, it really isn't much different on the surface (no pun intended) than Win7. Only the security and features the average user doesn't have the knowledge of separate the two.

For power users, it has some redeeming qualities, namely fully functional hyper-v and storage spaces works well with HTPCs.

Actually your account wasn't deleted and you don't have to setup/sign-in with a live account.

according to real numbers windows 8 did worse than vista (the worst ms os to date). but just before they released official numbers ms fuqqed with the numbers and made the official numbers look like it actually did better than 7 :wtf:.
whatever though. one of the ways they're faking the numbers is almost giving it away for free. and of course new comps coming with 8 installed. 8 failed. so they came up with this .1 stuff. don't really know how it's doing.. don't care.
7 is good enough. business machines just don't have time to deal with windows 8/.1 bugs to make the shift. there's nothing new 8 brings that you can't get a 3rd party to do in windows 7.

hardware wise there's nothing that compels one to move to 8. ms could've at least coordinate with intel and have haswell take advantage of something in windows 8 but nothing. both windows 8 and intel's haswell failed.
maybe the touch stuff but who's really using touch on current monitors? it's been over a year and the os just hasn't done numbers.

============================

i got a new ssd and was contemplating putting 8 on it but decided just to stick to 7. the software and hardware barely run good for other users on windows 7. i'd rather not even get into it with 8.

=============

for the ppl who say windows 8/.1 is fast or faster than 7... every clean install is fast.
