Never used it but like dude above you said, they have a bad reputation of fuccing up OS's after a real solid offering.

I don't think Vista was that bad of a fukk-up you have to consider that's the transition from 32 to 64bit.

Vista was a solid OS but the drivers didn't do it justice. Windows 7 was a lot better because most 64-bit drivers matured by then.

Eh yes and no. imo the vista kernel was ass. Insecurity and memory leaks everywhere. Some of that was due to drivers but some was just... lazy programming. Glad they went back to basics with windows 7 and got rid of a lot of the bloating that had been building with the windows kernel for over a decade.

I hope I'm wrong about windows 8. Time will tell.

Windows 8 kernel builds on top of Win7 so not a lot of big changes. Only problem with Win8 is can the general public adapt to Metro and as of right now I think they can.

Metro simplifies the PC. Normally people use a PC to surf the web and download music. Surfing the web is really easy using IE10 Metro and using Xbox Music to download songs cant get any more easier.

If you get a new Windows 7 computer consider pairing that up with a Windows Phone to make the experience a lot better.

Microsoft's retail pattern is very obvious, and every other os is more end user / consumer driven and is a dissapointment

Windows 3.1.1 :lawd:
Windows 95 :beli:
Windows 98 :takedat:
Windows me :sadcam:
Windows xp :myman:
windows vista :childplease:
Windows 7 :smugdraper:
Windows 8 :usure:

The only real fukk up on that list is Windows ME. Vista, 95, and 8 weren't that bad--they just had radically different changes to the interface that people rejected at the time.

Watch Windows 9 be the exact same thing as 8 with a few minor changes and everyone act like it's the greatest thing ever. :lawd:

That's good news.

Bro I remember Windows 95 having people going nuts though...

But yeah this is pretty much what I said to myself when I installed 7 for the first time.

FYI if you want to upgrade your existing Windows 7 machine to Windows 8 its 39$

"We set out to make it as easy as possible for everyone to upgrade to Windows 8. Starting at general availability, if your PC is running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 you will qualify to download an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for just $39.99 in 131 markets. And if you want, you can add Windows Media Center for free through the "add features" option within Windows 8 Pro after your upgrade."

"If you prefer to shop at a local store, a packaged DVD version of the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro will be available for $69.99 during this promotion."

"This upgrade promotion for Windows 8 Pro both online and at retail runs through January 31st, 2013."

"Oh, and by the way - if you’re not upgrading from a prior version of Windows and are building your own PC or installing Windows 8 in a virtual machine or a separate partition, you will be able to purchase and install the Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro System Builder product."

For a vast majority, Vista was not that great but for most it was shyt because they were putting it on underpowered machines. Any 250-300 Wal-Mart machine was getting it even though they didn't meet the minimum specs.

As for this thread, I wouldn't wait for an OS. As long as you get something with some good specs, you can :eat: when win 8 drops in a few months...

I saw good reviews for the Samsung series 7 that came out recently. I'm considering buying. Anybody have a recommendation either way?

If Windows 8 was going to be the next Vista we would know by now. People that hated Metro are starting to enjoy it. Its simplicity at its finest form.
