if it was bernie, or like we saw with hillary, there would be a lot more "trump is awful but i have to vote for him"

just wont work on biden. republicans lost that card and its gonna hurt em

I think that Trump's drinking bleach incident is like McCain's statement "The fundamentals of this economy are strong" when the market crashed in 2008. As in, the turning point of the GOP voting for a Dem.

I think Trump is far more tired of this shyt than most people imagine. If a second wave of coronavirus is hitting in winter and his mental/physical health has deteriorated even further with popularity more in the trash than it is now, I imagine he might even want to go out at that point.

What we'll see is him resigning early so Pence can become president and then grant him a blanket pardon of all crimes he's ever committed anywhere.
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he genuinely wanted out.

I'm not going to hypothesize about potential violence or a nation crumbling like that, but I will say that if Trump loses:

1. Trump will not concede on election night.

2. Trump's administration will not participate in a transitional period. He might invite Biden to the WH, but I don't see him instructing his aides to work with Biden's staff the same way Obama did for him (or W did for Obama). Which will result in the Biden administration being behind the 8 ball on January 20th, 2021.

3. Trump will not participate in the inauguration. He won't attend, and he will likely slunk out the White House with as little fanfare as possible.

Remember, everything Trump has gotten away with was paved by unwavering support from republican officials. If he loses and it's pretty straight forward (ie not a Bush Gore ting) there is no real incentive for normal republicans to support his bullshyt. If he loses, he's taking a lot of people down with him, including the senate. What incentive does a now-Minority Leader-elect Mitch McConnell gain from saying the election is invalid? What incentive is there for potential 2024 republican candidates to back a coup? They'll want Trump out the picture as quickly as possible so they can start positioning for the next election.

A coup in the US is very unlikely, based on how the country is set up. I'm not worried about that.

Let's start with the military.

Do you see the Joint Chiefs of Staff, along with the 5 star generals in every force, going along with an unlawful attempt to hold onto power?

Barr is Trump's lapdog, but do you see the head and rank of the FBI, DEA, Marshals, ATF, and other federal law enforcement agencies going along with this?

Now to the states... What governor do you see going along with an unlawful hijack attempt? Any attempt at federalization of state national guards would be struck down by any state or federal court. In addition local and state law enforcement report to governors, not the president.

So in such a scenario... Who does Trump have to prevent a peaceful transfer of power?

The President can only pardon Federal Crimes
