Peyton had that label until he won at 30. Lamar is literally Peyton right now.
Peyton maintained that label even after that. Notice he didnt say young Peyton or Peyton before he won...he just said Peyton because thats the rep he has to this day. Jordan was labeled as a chucker you cant win with early in his career. Yet nobody is gonna use Jordan as a pejorative for a player that is scoring a lot but not winning early in their career.

It's all bullshyt. Fun fact, Peyton's teams have beaten Tom Brady's teams in the playoffs, 3-2. It's all sports talk bullshyt. Who cares, they're all great QBs.

Fair enough but that’s because Peyton threw that INT against the Saints after that and when he finally won again, he wasn’t Peyton for real. But by and large Peyton is only looked at as not a big game QB in comparison to Brady as his contemporary who despite shortcomings as well, has better situational numbers (and a sizable sample size) than pretty much any QB ever.

I don’t think Peyton’s situational numbers are much worse (without looking) than anyone not named Brady or Montana (I don’t count Mahomes because of the smaller sample size relative to the other two).

That's hilarious because I was about to include that exact example in my response. I was gone say how nobody in their right mind would criticize Nique after a game like that. I think fans of today almost enjoy getting off hot takes more than being able to enjoy a great game.

This generation would look at Michael Jordan's 63 point game versus the Celtics and the game they lost and call it empty stat-padding numbers.

Sometimes a great player just runs up against a juggernaut.

You put up monster numbers in a losing effort this generation is ruthless

That's why I defend him anytime someone tries to paint him as a loser who can't get it done in the playoffs. That man is a monster. Damn near screamed on my friend for trying to get that take off. He's lead his team to do enough to win or go to OT and his defense and FG kicker have let him down. It's ridiculous how if you lose no matter how great you play you get blamed somehow for the loss. Somebody has to win every game. Two players/teams can play great and one HAS to win. That's like when people act like you have to tear a team down and rebuild because they lost a razor thin game against the eventual champs. It's dumb.
I think in general fans have lost perspective on what it means to be a champion. Like just because you're good you're due to win one. In the NFL in particular, statistically it's damn near impossible. It almost diminishes how incredible the Pats and Chiefs runs have been

It takes so many things going just right all at once just to get one with such a slim margin for error. Look at the 2012 ravens:

Ray Rice miraculously converts a 4th and 28 catch and run to set up a game tying field goal in the 4th and the ravens go on to win in overtime. Ravens win the north by 1 game.

Ray Lewis barely gets cleared to return from a tricep tear for the playoffs.

Wild card game vs Indianapolis:
Boldin makes several deep catches in double coverage to get the offense going early. Tip drill pick to Cary Williams that he takes roughly 70 yards downfield to put the game away.

Divisional round vs Denver:
Brandon Stokely juggles a pass over his head into the hands of Corey Graham who has a whole convoy of blockers for a pick 6. Matt Prater swings his foot into the dirt well before the ball on a field goal attempt right before halftime causing him to miss and that sets up the ravens to drive for a game tying touchdown right before halftime where Denver was set to get the ball at the half. If Prater executes properly then Holliday’s kickoff return touchdown to open the quarter likely makes the score 31-14 Denver. Rahim Moore totally blows the coverage with the game on the line to give up the tying touchdown at the end of the 4th quarter. Manning goes full :upsetfavre: throwing cross field and cross body in overtime for a pick to set up the winning field goal for the ravens.

AFC title game:
Bernard Pollard knocks out Steven Ridley who fumbles on the play to set up Boldin’s second touchdown catch to make it 28-13 ravens.

Super Bowl 47:
Kaep misses (as in doesn’t see him) Randy Moss open downfield on the 49ers final drive when he might’ve scored on that play if he threw to him. Jimmy Smith dives for the ball and drives through Michael Crabtree’s arms to break up the catch at the 5 yard line on the ravens final stand, risking giving up the touchdown if he doesn’t knock out the ball.

Any of those details change and odds are in some cases and definitely in other cases someone else wins it all that year. Team sports are random and harsh like that sometimes. Dan Marino never reached a second Super Bowl. The bills of the 90’s lost on the final play in Super Bowl 25 and then got blown out in 3 straight when they were 1 kick away from immortality the first time. The greatest show on turf never won another playoff game after the 2001 nfc title game and Warner never even started another playoff game for St. Louis. Aaron Rodgers and the packers never got back to another Super Bowl either.

The 2 SBs and 4 appearances with 4 different coaches on 2 different teams label?
The “best regular season qb” that can’t get it done in the playoffs. He’s really in the middle of that same career arc, it took Manning a while before he got to his first bowl, and he was literally 1 foot out the door on the second.

Which sounds silly when applied to someone who did this.

He has to actually get to and win SBs before you can give him the (accurate) Peyton label.
