Still remember after Wrestlemania 32 excluding "I'm not a good guy, I'm not a bad guy.....I'm the guy

line" When Sami Zayn came out to try and challenge Reigns....dude looked at him like

like "Who's man is this" that could've been the start of the smug heel Roman...could've done that last year but nope.
This Alvarez rant still holds up today
Alvarez had it right the first time. They kept trying to make him an underdog, stacking the deck against him before he'd even built up that kind of goodwill or gained that investment from the audience. It was too on the nose from creative/booking.
The most important part is simply that they have him talk way too much. He doesn't need to talk loads. Braun originally didn't talk that much and even now that he does, he doesn't say anything overly complex or pandering other than "get these hands". Roman isn't a great talker, that isn't his strength. If he just talked less from the start, he'd have fared a bit better and people wouldn't still be talking about "sufferin' succotash" and "tater tots". The best promos he's cut are the shorter ones - save for one recently on Brock and even that was

rather than

. In fact, my absolute favorite promo of his consists of 5 words: "This is my yard now".
I don't buy that Roman's a bad wrestler like some people say and I definitely don't buy into the intense hatred of him (I actually like Roman, even now). IMO, he was a lay-up, as Alvarez himself points out. He could easily have gotten over (at one point, he really was over as a face before his hernia injury). But they fukked it up by trying to make him the "ideal" babyface instead of just doing what he was already doing.
