Binged it today. Has one of the WOAT titles. I never paid it any attention because I thought it was a Western-esque documentary. Recently started watching Documentary Now and realized after the fact that one of the episodes is a parody of this doc.
I think we are lucky as a society that Sheela peaked before social media became a thing. She was mesmerising and charismatic with a Rihanaa-esque IDGAF vibe to top it off. She'd be undefeatable nowadays. As the doc progresses, she becomes less and less worthy of praise but about halfway through, she was amazing
Such a layered doc. Seeing the Oregonians abuse the political system was very relevant given what we're going through nowadays. On the flip side, watching Sheela slowly escalate towards a Machiavellian approach once she amassed power was haunting. Initially, she was acting within the law on some sneaky shyt. It smart/amoral to bring in the homeless people to vote in the election, but when they started drugging homeless people, it's like
