Somalia is Germany and Ethiopia is the British empire. A united Germany was Europe's worst nightmare in the 18th-19th century until the late 20th century. Same with Somalia. Our neighbors want us divided. To prevent the unification of the Somali peninsula.

See Ethiopia as China and Somalia as Vietnam. Personally.

Somalia is bigger. Proper Somalia. The Highlanders were historically stuck in the mountains. Ethiopians conquered their neighbors like the British did the Irish and the Scots/Welsh. They gain our land out of spite by the British due to the Dervishes movement.

Compare that now to their acquisitions of land through war and weapons sent them by Europeans. They starting CONQUERING after CONTACT with Europeans. They conquered different ethnic groups that should've been their own nations like the Oromos and the Agews and Hararis due to having access to the maxim gun. Ethiopia is a modern construction. Agews were more glorious kings anyways. And they were Cushytic.

This what annoys me. Kenyans are so individualistic and proud. Kenyans could not allow themselves to submit to the rule of centralized authority like a monarchy. Every clan and family wanted to rule itself. We didn't even have petty Kingdoms like in Uganda and Rwanda.
Too true. Even the only kingdom in kenya, the abawanga among the luhya was brought to us by two princes from bunyoro kitara kingdom in Uganda. The only tribe capable of forming a kingdom was the Maasai, but their pastoralist lifestyle and infighting prevented this. Back to the ethiopians, during the battle of adowa, the whole state rallied behind Menelik to fight for the cause, they even had an Oromo infantry. Whereas in this country, during colonization we had collaborators and resistors due to the lack of organization.

We conquered more than half the country and we killed their emperor in Adal wars. Also, we were 60 miles outside of Addis Ababa in the 70s before the Communist bloc intervened. Who can say that. Not even Oromos and other ethnic groups can say that.

USSR armed Siad Barre before they switched. Also, Ethiopia was fighting a civil war at the time.

These are important facts when describing the Ogaden War

Excuses, excuses. It is not important facts. The Communist bloc still choose them over us. They also had US arms as well. That's moot. Secondly, the civil war wasn't an existence threat like our invasion of their land.

Hmmm...a potential collapse of the Derg regime wasn't an existential threat. I see what you're saying but I hedge at that point. The collapse of the Derg led to the breakaway of Eritrea, for example. If the Derg had collapsed in the 1970s, I don't see how Ethiopia could put itself back together again.

Coz Siad Barre was trying to strong arm everything lol. They called a meeting to resolve the issue since we all "socialist"...attended by Russians..Ethiopians..Somalia...South Yemen..Cuba. The meeting was chaired by Fidel Castro and Barre tried to intimidate him and make veiled threats :gucci:

If that's not a Somali way of handling things :dead:

If Ethiopia is Britain, that makes Kenya France :flabbynsick:
But chill with the Ogaden War. Ethiopians wanted the Derg to fall, they didn't fight with 100% determination. During the Cold War even Kenya which was anti-communist supported anti-Derg movements. The Derg was cornered from all angles including the threat of Eritrean secession.

Pastoralists have been successful conquerors throughout history, usually adopting the culture of the conquered settled people.
If the Maasai adopted Islam the warring clans would have united and annexed everything East of the Rift Valley.
At the height of the Maasai power they threatened to take Mombasa in the mid-1800s just before they were hit by droughts and famine.

That Ethiopia had its own institutions it jealousy defended helped as well. Between the Adal wars and the anarchy that preceded Tewodros, the Jesuits tried hard to convert some Emperors and essentially make Ethiopia a vassal of the Catholic Church and Portugal. Unlike the Kongolese, the nobility and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church put a stop to that.
