Why type of movies does Johnny Depp need to star in for a triumphant comeback?

He was a good White Bulger but that movie is only OK.

Yeah, he was actually great as Bulger but the movie itself fell flat.
His performance in Black Mass is a memorable performance tho.
But the movie lacked a great deal of great dialogue.
In spots, it was actually boring.
Johnny needs to get back with Burton and work on something new, fresh and epic. (Sweeney Todd was a great movie. That's a classic IMO)
He also needs to work with someone like Scorsese cause I think he needs to remind people of his range again outside of his usual eccentric character roles.

Oscar bait. Some shyt like a boring ass period piece set in the 1800s about some poor farmer tryna connect with his lesbian daughter. Those cacs at the academy would throw gold statues at him for something like that.

A project about a guy with no arms/legs who teaches gangbangers Hamlet should suffice.
