Seeing the ball through the net helps a shooter's rhythm. That's why when a shooter is struggling they try to get to the FT line just so they can see the ball go through the net. With no net, you don't get that. Half the game (or more) is mental.
Plus the net will indicate which way the wind is blowing.
And again, as previously mentioned, and repeatedly repeated, it's hard to tell if a shot was good or not with no net.
Basically.
This is the exact reason why NBA players contiue to shoot after a whistle call. Seeing the ball going through gives them confidence.
