the notion of science being "forward" thinking is an opinion. Science doesn't need to be forward or backward thinking. Its not there for progress, but rather for investigation. To some that is backward. To some that is forward. The idea that science is solution oriented or even investigation oriented is correct. Trying to figure out our origins is a solution that is attempting to be solved.
The problem with that is... there is no problem with the origin of the universe nor it's contents, it doesn't need a solution, it already occurred or was already in existence.
Any scientific endeavor pertaining to our origin or the origin of existence is beyond the scope of what science can achieve. The only truthful statement science can have about the origin of existence is "it already happened".

And Religion is backward thinking and fiction oriented...guess which one i prefer?
