Here's my second point: Every time the U.S. meddles in the internal politics of Arab nations (either through "intervention" or covert CIA operations), the result seems to ALWAYS be a country that is hostile to the U.S. and Israel.... Just of few examples of this are Iran, Libya, and more recently Iraq. The same Iraq that we spent billions of dollars trying to "set free" is now one of Iran's major allies....

What I'm trying to say is...Even if Israel pushes enough buttons and eventually forces the U.S. to get involved in conflict with Iran... it still doesn't make sense because history tells us that it isn't in their interest.

But then again I'm assuming that the leaders of these countries are acting in the interest of the people. :whoa: I might be pushing it.

The Assad family, and a large portion of the elites are I believe Druze, who are a miniority, which are a offshoot of Shia. The majority of the country is Sunni however. Maybe Israel is trying to start a wider, regional war that could draw in the U.S. :manny: The Baath party was a secular, Pan Arab party/ideology. Thats why you can have Sunni Iraqi Baath party officials, and Druze Baath party officials in Syria.

I'll start the thread off with one major point: It isn't even in Israel's interest. Think about it... There is a civil war going on in Syria...What better to reunite a divided Syria than Jewish folk attacking their homeland.....Why would Israel want a united Syria??? That is unless it's an attempt to get other major regional players involved in conflict...like Iran for example. Is the war with Iran avoidable??? I don't think so...Unless you are a believer that Chuck Hagel will actually make a difference in U.S. Foreign Policy. From what I have seen in the past I dont believe he will...but we will see.

My $.02 on politics for today.:manny: Feel free to contribute. :datazz:

Makes perfect sense. They want to the united states to get involved in a war against Iran who is allied with Syria. Its easier to move i that direction with the US directly involved in the defense of Israel.
