No they weren't and traditional african spirituality predates those anyway.
It is not a myth, but the facts, and it is the same that applies to other countries in the world, Are India, China, philippines or Papua New Guinea the same? To think otherwise is not being realistic. Even the history, cultures is very different, and observer can see that.
Most societies in the world were supposedly traditional, and no culture in the world remains static.

I'm saying if you were to look at the beliefs of various native tribes in Africa you would find a common theme, it's tribalism but more importantly a lack of unifying linguistic identity that kept them apart. Africa never had a Muhammad-like figure who was able to unify large swaths of people under one banner, but it was easier for the Arabs because even though there were many tribes/clans, they all spoke Arabic. With Europeans the unifying factor was the Church under Latin, in the Asian religions it was Sanskrit, etc;. The lack of linguistic unity is a major reason why there is no "major" black religion and Africans ended up succumbing to Christianity and Islam.
It depends on what area of Africa. Christianity is just as old in Africa as it is in Europe besides the middle east, in fact Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan were once majority Christian, before it reach places such as England. As far as the ancient beliefs system that even differ a great deal. Societies such as the Dinka, Nuer were Monotheistic, whereas societies such as Egypt and ancient Meroe were polytheistic in nature.

See… white people don't tell you this but their strength lies in their racial harmony. Hell, that's what the Church was about. While everyone is squabbling and trying to be "individuals" these Europeans know that it's THEM against the world. While everyone else is busy trying to be an individual they're working to make deals and alliances with their fellow colonial powers.
