She had three platinum albums in a row, and her next two albums sold pretty well - she moved like half a million units and then 250k after that - she has a couple of platinum singles and a couple of gold singles. She's also had like four or five reality tv shows. She took a break from music for a while - but I wouldn't say she doesn't have mainstream popularity.

R&B also has fits and starts as a popular music genre.

she got a reduction?! no wonder she fell off.

she had a nice little run in the mid-2000's. I think she would have been bigger if she were born 10-15 years later. Not mainstream but would have had the hoodrat-n-b lane locked up and would have been better off using youtube/social media to put herself out there instead of a reality tv show.

I mean she did have a great peak. Released replayable music, had her own shows, etc.

I actually think once she toned the drama down in her life though she by choice put some distance between the public and herself.

Additionally, it really looks like she's a part of her kids' lives heavy.

That said, she's still getting attention and respect.
