We be giving Yamcha a lot of shyt, but he's smart.

Krillin was about to fight the Saibaman before Yamcha stopped him. Yamcha told him he won't be able to be revived if he's killed again, so he'd be better off just waiting his turn. After Yamcha got blown up, Krillin said Yamcha knew something bad was going to happen in that battle, so he took his turn to keep Krillin from being killed. As we can all see, that ended up being a great choice on his end
