Young, educated people leave for better job opportunities.
The population is becoming older, whiter, and less educated.
Theres nothing there to attract workers to the state.
Tons of rural areas that are disconnected from regular life for other people.

Ohio is mostly a wasteland of broken dreams, opioids, and cacs that blame everyone for their problems except for themselves and the pieces of shyt that they vote into office.

I didn't read the thread, but scrolled through it. if nobody said it's because it has enough electoral college seats to swing the vote, then this thread is a waste of time.

Couple reasons

- Ohio has 2 less electoral votes than it did 20 years ago due to a decrease in population. From 20 electoral votes to 18.

- a few blue states have gained electoral votes due to population increase.

- virginia (mainly northern) has seen a population shift that has turned it from a perennial red state in the last 20 years to a blue state (you can thank maryland for that). Virginia has 13 electoral votes.

- colorado has also turned from a perennial red state into a blue state due to a shift in demographics. Colorado also went from 8 electoral votes to 9.

Virginia (13)+colorado (9) > ohio (18)

Ohio is no longer needed.

The bigger, denser cities are still solid blue and voted for Biden. But the economic opportunities have dried up in rural areas and the smaller cities. You have folks driving two hours back and forth daily to work in cities like Columbus. And lots of folks have moved to different states. I know lots of people who have moved from Toledo and Dayton to Atlanta or Texas.

Dave Chappelle touched on this heavy during one of his major stand ups last year I think. I was like :dwillhuh: when I found out breh moved to Ohio.

A lot of white Christians in the areas outside of the cities.

Ohio is a case study in how the Dems lost "white blue collar" workers. Sure those people weren't too left on social issues but did not agree with right wingers on economic issues. The old saying the Republican party is the party of bosses while the Dems represents the workers.

Ohio was a big industrial state and unionized labor was strong. The loss of industries and factories hurt a lot of areas.
Some areas never recovered from policies like NAFTA. The GOP won those people over on culture war issues and painting Democrats as out of touch "social elites".
Which hits home because the Dem party has abandoned organized labor for the white collar consultant and Wall Street class.
Dems have to go back to being the party of poor

You just said we aren't a swing state...we literally went red for bush twice. Blue for Obama twice and now red twice for trump. What are u basing this on? U know theirs only an election for president every 4 years right.? All states except like 7 go the same color every election. We do not.

Aka. Swing state.

Being a swing isn't just about switching from red to blue, it's also about being able to determine an election. ie a president elect MUST win the swing state in question to become president. With the way demographics have shifted in the last 20 years and once red states like Virginia and Colorado becoming dependable blue states, ohio is no longer a must win state to get to the white house.

Their economy has been decimated by the loss of manufacturing jobs and loss of union membership. That always favors republicans and conservatives which can tap into their emotional thinking.

This trend has also been prevalent in Michigan & Pennsylvania.

Youd think in THIS election theyd hold the current administration accountable for those manufacturing jobs disappearing along with there health care BUT these fakkits said no we will kiss ur ass regardless...rust belt cacs are the dumbest ppl on earth.
