Why is Lonzo Ball so highly regarded?

He has a ton of glaring flaws that are actually terrifying on the NBA level. He can't penetrate, create his own shot, draw fouls, or run the PnR leaving him pretty damn useless in the half court outside of catch-and-shoot 3s and the occasional step back which isn't a good thing to rely on. He's one of the better transition players I've seen in a long time, but he'll get punished defensively and won't give you much in a set. He has a lot of upside, but there's an insane amount of bust in there too.

That being said, he's probably still the 3rd best prospect in this class behind Fultz and Jackson.

Sixers bloggers have been writing pieces saying he's really a 2.

Yall can't see the basic shyt here? Everything he does is assisted or in transition. That doesn't make you a good finisher at the rim. Lonzo can't do shyt in the half court. Anyone can make open dunks and layups which is basically all he does.

No because he didn't do that well in the half court either. He couldn't run a PnR to save his life, couldn't penetrate and find open shots, etc. His offensive came heavily from transition.

Kevin Martin had a similar form and had a lot of success shooting in the NBA.

Lonzo's form should be just fine in the NBA.

He'll be decent as long as he can get that jumper off in space but I don't know if he will reach the level of a Jason Kidd type player which is who is compared to most. In an uptempo offense he'll probably get 10 assists a night but he will need to be able to score too if he wants to reach superstar status.

Lavar Ball is a bonafide superstar. Lonzo is a tall point guard, who lacks explosion, has a shockingly sloppy handle, can't get loose in the half court, and might not be able to shoot going to his right.

I like him, but he's not a bonafide superstar. He's going to need to be in the right situation. If it's your team, I hope it works out.

The stats do support what @KingJay asserts through Lonzo's lack of drive volume compared to other prospects. The statistical implication is that Lonzo doesnt attempt many of these type of shots because he simply cant create them. In other words, the lack of volume shows his lack of game
